'Battle of the Brits' A Promotional Ball Case Study - Schroders

Price of Bath was proud to support Schroders Fundraising Tournament
in Aid of NHS Charities Together

When Schroders hosted the UK’s first ‘behind closed doors’ tennis tournament ‘Battle of The Brits’ all expectations were exceeded, not only in the quality of tennis on offer but also in the raising of an impressive £120,000 in aid of NHS Charities Together.

When it was announced that Schroders, the asset management company, was sponsoring ‘Battle of the Brits’ we were delighted to be their first stop for their promotional tennis ball needs. The brainchild of Jamie Murray, it was to be the first major tennis tournament in the UK since the Covid 19 pandemic had bought the tennis season to an untimely halt earlier in the year. In aid of NHS Charities, the six-day long tournament at the Lawn Tennis Association’s headquarters in Roehampton saw the UK’s top-ranked male players compete to be crowned singles and doubles champions. After months of competitive inactivity caused by the pandemic, this would be one of the very first viable tennis tournaments since the close-down and the event was sure to get worldwide attention. The presence of one player, in particular, Andy Murray, would draw significant audiences. For Schroders it was essential that their contribution to this exceptionally high-profile tournament would look and feel first-class..

A Promotional Ball Case Study – Schroders

It’s always a great pleasure to work with major brands on their tennis-themed ventures and Schroders ‘Battle of the Brits’ turned out to be a particularly rewarding project. We believe Price of Bath produces the best quality promotional balls on the market, and over the years we have supplied a wide variety of companies from sporting brands to high street stores to major tennis events. From Evian to Fred Perry, we have a wealth of experience at forming the right strategy to reflect the brand personality, vision, and values. We make sure our product will reflect our client’s own excellence, from print quality to exceptional packaging.

Planning A Promotional Project

Initially, Schroders weren’t sure what type or quantity of promotional balls they would need due to tournament planning being in its early stages. That was no problem here at Price. Working to a short or strict turnaround is our forte and no quantity is too big or too small to take on. We walked Schroders through the possibilities, sending them images from our extensive portfolio of past work to generate ideas. The tournament was in aid of NHS Charities Together and therefore rainbows seemed a perfect visual theme. In the UK during the Coronavirus lockdown people had been using images of rainbows as a symbol of solidarity with the NHS, and the rainbow had become something of a national symbol of hope. The initial idea was to use the sides of the court to create large scale tennis ball rainbow instillations. But very quickly things moved on, and after consultations with Jamie Murray’s team it soon became clear that this would not comply with the restrictions in place to conform to the exacting standards imposed by social distancing.

The Schroders team were still keen to run with the idea of a rainbow theme to support the NHS. Together we decided the best way forward was to produce a set of tubed rainbow balls with the Schroders logo to be used as gifts for clients and players, and also as decorations throughout the backstage areas. We sent off a sample set for their perusal and once the shades were decided upon we shared examples of what the balls would look like when printed and packaged. As well as colours and prints the client also needs to make the decision as to which type of tennis ball is right for the project as we produce balls to several different specifications. Schroders decided the right ball for them would be a premium performance ball because the tubes were going to be included in the tennis player’s Goody Bags. The players clearly were happy with the end results if this photo from Jamie Murray’s Instagram feed is anything to go by!

Providing A Quick Response

We always pride ourselves on our ability to address client requests without delay. When the Schroder quantities jumped from an initial 300 to 3,400 balls, with just a two-week turnaround, we were able to respond quickly in all eight colours and meet the delivery deadline without hindrance. We pride ourselves in this ability to respond quickly and efficiently to changing circumstances and are always ready to accommodate our client’s needs. When Schroders needed to deliver to a number of different locations this again proved no complication.

Despite the stringent safety precautions for everyone concerned, from the players to the supporting crews, Schroders Battle of the Brits was an outstanding success and the perfect way to restart elite tennis in the UK. Price of Bath were very proud to be a small part of this unique event and it’s a very worthy cause.
